I uploaded a video of a cool young learner becoming comfortable with a reptile. It is not too educational, so I will probably remove it later; I just wanted to see if I could do it, and it was simple as pie.

Way to go Charlie! It is easy to use TeacherTube, isn't it. You mention that you might take it off because it's not educational. Since no one filters TeacherTube except for the viewing audience, do you think TeacherTube will become inundated with videos that are not teacher related thus diminishing the product?

Good question Joanna. I also wonder if the quality of teacher tube will diminish as well.
Hey Chris, you might like keepvid.com to save videos onto your memory stick.
Hi Chris,
Good point about filters and what they mean. Richardson's point about filtering also resonated with me. As a tech-savvy parent, this is what I did and do with my children. I talk to them about the Web. I don't try to filter much. You know, my kids don't hear me swear, but they know the words from the school ground and their peers. It is the same on the net.
I also make sure that all of our computers (we currently have three) are in public areas. No computer in the bedroom. No computer off by its lonesome. One is in my wife's and my bedroom, which is for the use of my wife and son. One is in the office just off the kitchen and very visible. It is not connected to the internet. The third is in the living room. This is mainly for my use for school and coursework. All are visible and monitored.
Before our daughter moved back to Canada the only censorship I did on her was to deny the family computer internet access after 10:30 on weeknights and 12:30 on weekends using my router control.
I hear you on the ads intruding when they are the expandable ones that spread all over your desktop. Those drive me nuts as once you mouse over it there's no going back. I think they are making the XClose button harder to find as well!
If you are wondering about how to grab video, you can either ask to have a website on the school server for internal use (or external as well) or you can use a program like Tubesock to download video right off YOuTube. It is integrated in your browswer so you can just click one button and it is done.
As I stated, I think that school districts are going to have to change some policies as the paradigm of how we use the net and its resources changes. It will happen!
